In 1947 Starbox was purchased by Selwyn Ireland, a return serviceman who was looking for a new challenge and way to support his family. The Company had 5 employees and was making beer crates and general timber packaging. Selwyn looking to expand the business increased its product range to include ammunition cases and then the Coca cola boxes for the Soft Drink Industry. By the mid 1970's the company was producing up to 2000 coca cola boxes per day but once again was forced to change direction as the Soft Drink Industry went from wooden to plastic crates. Since the late 1970's the company has expanded its product range to include pallets, cable reels, bed frames, wine and presentation boxes.
In 2007 the company modernised its plant by purchasing the latest technology optimising saw which allows for fast efficient processing of lumber with reduced waste and maximum safety for the work force. Since then the company has shifted from its original site of 60+ years in Onehunga to a large modern plant in Mangere. The modernisation of the plant has continued with the introduction of a second faster optimising saw and a Beam saw for its panel work.
Starbox is now well placed to continue to grow with an eye for outstanding quality and service
